Our garages tend to be areas that we use to store lots of unused items. They can also be storage spaces for our garden equipment, bits of outdoor furniture that we use infrequently and, of course, large items such as bikes. There are still some people who use a garage to store their cars in. But with vehicles becoming larger and garages not increasing in size, this is definitely one of the uses for a garage that is not explored often.
One way that people are looking to repurpose their garage spaces is by turning them into workshops, home offices or games rooms. This can be achieved relatively quickly, but there are several things that you need to consider.
Access – depending on what you intend on using your garage space for, you might have to consider the type of garage door that you have and whether you have any windows in the building. You can speak with a Garage Doors Bath company such as www.upandoverdoorsltd.co.uk/garage-doors/garage-doors-bath/ to find out what options are available to you.
Flooring – you will need to think about what kind of flooring is required. Garages tend to have simple concrete floors, and when working in this space or using it as a home gym, you will need to have some top flooring added. This could be rubber matting or a screed that is then covered with carpeted areas. The flooring options that you choose will depend very much on the activities that you will be undertaking in the room.
Lighting – garage lighting tends to be very basic, and you may want to think about if you wish to have an electrician come in and extend this for you. Spotlights can be very beneficial in garages, and you can incorporate them into a ceiling that you can add to the room to make it much cosier and warmer.
Walls – as single-skin buildings, garages are not designed for you to be spending lots of time in, and they certainly won’t help keep you warm in the colder months. You can have internal walls added and insulation to help you turn the garage into a much more comfortable place to be.
Once you have considered all of these aspects, you can set about turning your garage into the beautiful workshop, home gym or office that you have been longing for.
