Making a Crochet Book Sleeve

Made up of crochet granny squares, creating a beautiful book sleeve can be surprisingly simple.

Step One

Choose a yarn and make the first round of your first granny square.

Step Two

Continue to add rounds to the same square. Keep going until your granny square is large enough to easily fit your chosen book inside. To test this, put your book in the middle of your square and bring each of the corners into the centre. If the corners touch, your square is large enough.

Step Three

To edge your square, double crochet into each stitch around the entire edge. Choose a yarn of a different colour from the last round you crocheted.

Step Four

Place your granny square face down and bring three corners into the centre.

Step Five

Working from the points to the base, double crochet into each stitch along the line where two corners meet. Repeat this process along the other line.

Step Six

You’ll now have an envelope into which your book should fit. Pull the remaining quarter of the granny square over. The point at which your corner meets the square is where you should attach your button.

Step Seven

Use your embroidery floss and needle to securely attach your button. You can use one of the chain gaps to secure the envelope with the button.

If you’re looking for a bigger project, there are a variety of crochet blanket kits available online which come with clear, step-by-step instructions to help you make a beautiful and practical creation.
