How to look after your back, even when seated

As we lead more and more sedentary lifestyles there appear to be more instances of people struggling with back problems. These can range from an occasional niggle through to full blown back pain and even problems with movement. There are a number of ways that you can help to look after your back, even whilst you are sitting down.

Chair choice – the chair that you choose to sit in can make all the difference when it comes to the back. It is common to think that this only applies when sitting at a desk working, but it also makes a difference what chair you sit when you watch TV and when you eat a meal. You need to make sure that any chair you sit in has enough lower back support. Of course you still want these chairs to be stylish so Connubia Calligaris Furniture from Nua Style is a great place to start looking.

Stretching – taking a few minutes every 45 minutes to an hour to have a good stretch can help to reduce stress and strain in your muscles. It also gives you an opportunity to rest your posture. We all start to hunch over or slip down in our chairs over time so regularly taking time out to reset your positioning will help your posture and your back in the long run.

Positioning – make sure when sat in a chair that you sit all the way back so the back of the chair can support your lumbar region. You should also make sure that your feet can be rested flat on the floor with your knees at a 90 degree angle to the floor.
