We have all been locked up inside for months and to make things worse the weather has been typical of winter in the UK! Now it is not only possible to meet with family outdoors, but the weather is starting to improve so what could be better than a picnic?
If it has been a while since you have enjoyed a picnic, here are some top tips for picnic foods that will go down a treat with everyone…
Sandwiches – A picnic essential is a sandwich, but when it comes to transporting sandwiches choose your fillings wisely! Foods that tend to go a bit runny might not be as good for travelling, so stick to things like cheese and ham to make sure your sandwiches arrive intact!
Sweet Treats – A picnic has to include a treat so why not make a classic Victoria sponge cake? Bake it the day before so it has had a chance to cool and filled it with buttercream flavoured with vanilla extract and delicious strawberry jam – a guaranteed picnic pleaser!
Drinks – Like sandwiches, you want drinks that you can enjoy but you don’t want to get into a mess with! For summer, bottle up some elderflower cordial for a real taste of the season, or even try making your own! You could also bring some freshly squeezed orange juice for a refreshing summertime treat.
