Stargazing Tips for the Winter Nights

As the nights draw in and the temperatures go down we know that winter is around the corner. Although we all miss those long summer days, the longer nights give us the opportunity to see all of the marvels of the night sky.

Heading to a rural location where there is no light pollution is the best way to see all of the wonders of the night sky. Make sure that if you are going stargazing in the winter that you wrap up warm in appropriate clothing like these merino wool sweaters women and men can wear shamrockgift.com/aran-sweaters/womens-aran-sweaters/womens-merino-wool-irish-sweater

You will of course need lighting to see where you are going, but it is better to use red light to allow your eyes to adjust to the dark more easily. Give your eyes some time to get used to the dark as this will allow you to be able to see much more.

The stars light up the sky in the winter months, and if you are going with the hope of seeing stars, doing it on a new moon is your best bet. This way you won’t have the light of the moon to contend with and you will have a truly dark sky allowing you to pick out more constellations.

If you are hoping to look at the moon, then of course you will want to go when the moon is full and take a telescope or even binoculars to get a good look.

Don’t forget that we also have many meteor showers to see in the winter months, like the Leonids and the ursids, so make a note of the dates if you are hoping to get out and see them.
