The Royal Forest of Dean, its water features and Sculpture trail.

The Royal Forest of Dean is well known for its regal trees, ponds, lakes and Sculpture trail, Cannop Ponds, Noxon Ponds, Wench Ford, Mallards Pike, Speech House Lake and Soudley Ponds to name just a few. The tranquillity and beauty of these places draws tourists, day visitors and locals to bathe in the peace and solitude to be found there. Every season of the British year can be seen afresh through the magnificent colour changes and smells that fill the senses. Spring, the fresh, vibrant green of the trees provide a stunning backdrop for the crystal blue of the clear waters. Summer, the sparkling sun glistens on the lakes and streams while butterflies hover overhead. The long, warm days are perfect for strolling under the protection of the heavy branches. Autumn, probably the most colourful season, with ochre orange and red tints alongside evergreens and even the browns add a touch of interest.  Even the winter with its heavy mist and rain can be enjoyed in the forest, breathing in the crisp, cold air on a chilly winters’ day can be exhilarating.

Once you have completed your wonderful journey into nature and art combined, why not stop off at the Speech House, literally just around the corner and enjoy a bite to eat and a cup of tea?
