How you can support those with disabilities with their personal care

Disabilities can arise as a result of an accident or through a condition that can be acquired either during gestation and birth or later on in life. Some disabilities can make it difficult for people to get around and others will affect the ways in which people communicate. The type of disability that a person is diagnosed with, and the symptoms that they experience will determine what support they might need throughout the day.

Some tasks can be made more difficult as a result of some disabilities and personal care and hygiene is one such task. This is due to the fact that it can require people to stand or sit for periods of time as well as stabilising themselves in water. Water and smooth surfaces can create slip hazards for anyone, but for those who are less sure of their footing or who have stability and posture issues, it can become incredibly dangerous.

There are a number of Bathing Aids like the ones that are available from  www.abilitysuperstore.com/collections/bathing-aids that can help. There are support aids that are used to help the individual get safely in and out of the bath, these can include grab rails. There are also aids that help when in the bath or shower, such as bathing stools. These are stools that have non-slip feet and padding that allow the individual to sit safely whilst in the shower.
